CGIA Board 2007 Election results were announced in July 2007. Thank you to all who participated.


CGIA Board of Directors Update

  • Former CGIA Chair George White is changing hats. George will now act as CGIA Executive Director; his duties will include administration of contracts; supporting the Chair in operations of the CGIA Board, keeping track of membership, website updates and News Flashes, grant administration paperwork, financial support for the treasurer, and financial reports.
  • Kris Lynn-Patterson has stepped up to become CGIA Chair for 2007-08.

CGIA Annual Report: Under Mary Hurley's leadership in 2006-07, CGIA made positive and productive strides forward on many fronts. Mary prepared the 2006-07 Annual Report and presented a summary for discussion at the July 24, 2007 Board of Directors meeting. The annual report, which becomes the background for understanding the 2007-08 Strategic Initiatives, may be downloaded here: 2006-2007 Annual Report


CGIA Initiatives for 2007-08:
At the July 24, 2007 CGIA Board meeting, six strategic initiatives were adopted:

  1. Regular Communication to Geospatial Community
  2. Partner with CERES and California GIS Council to implement the California Geospatial Framework Data Plan
  3. Support California GIS Council with administration of strategic planning and imagery for the nation business planning.
  4. Sponsor state legislation and advocate the creation and hiring of California State Geographic Information Office (GIO).
  5. Plan, develop, and implement an education campaign in partnership with California's URISA chapters and others to promote financial alternatives and sustainability approaches for GIS programs and activities.
  6. Develop and implement a marketing, business, development, and advocacy campaign to promote the benefits of CGIA membership and initiatives.

The County of Santa Clara will begin hosting the Silicon Valley ESRI User Group. The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 22nd from 1:00-4:00 pm.

  • Topic: A Common Operating Picture (COP) for incident planning and response.
