Membership
Dues for 2007-08 may increase for the first time since
CGIA was formed in 1994. Please plan for the increase if it is
approved by the membership.
CalGIS
2007 in Oakland was a successful statewide conference,
with attendance at approximately 700. CGIA provided an overview
presentation at a special pre-Conference CGIA Board meeting: http://www.cgia.org/CGIA_2006-07_Overview_040307_Final.pdf.
This presentation provided a clarification about the nature of
CGIAs partnership with the California GIS Council (CGC),
current activities, and future directions. The future of GIS is
bright as Google, Microsoft, and NASA demonstrated how the value
of GIS continues to grow at Fridays final conference sessions.
CalGIS
2008 will be in Modesto. Tip: sign up early
and get a discount when the announcement comes out this Summer!
CGIA

CGIA

CGIA is working with the California GIS Council working group
to issue a Request for Proposal for Imagery for the Nation Project.
CGIA expects to issue and post the RFP on CGIAs web site
during May. A special announcement will be sent out when the RFP
is posted on the CGIA website.
CGIA
& CGC Partnership on Strategic Planning Project:
The California GIS Council has been awarded a grant to conduct
a statewide strategic planning project. CGIA expects that grant
funding for this project will become available to allow for CGIA
to issue a Request for Proposal by mid-June.

Membership Offer
As January 2007 arrived, we received our first membership for
the 2007-08 fiscal year. If you are considering joining CGIA,
there is no need to wait until July 2007 to join; we are extending
an offer for you to join today and
have membership from the date of your check through June 30, 2008.
There are three levels of membership: student ($20), regular ($40),
and sustaining ($200). Currently we have nearly 600 individuals
who have "joined CGIA" to receive news and information;
yet our dues-paying membership is less than 20% of this number.
We need your financial support.
Mary
Hurley brings CGIA Outreach to Regional Meetings
Mary Hurley, CGIA Chair, has been actively working to directly
communicate with regional groups. On October 15 2006, she participated
in the Southern California URISA meeting. On November 15th, she
made a presentation with Malcolm Adkins of Michael Baker, Inc
on the recently completed California Geospatial Framework Data
Draft Plan. On November 17th, she did outreach for CGIA at the
CIRGIS GIS Day. Send her an email (
) if your regional group would like to host a CGIA Board
member to talk about the California Geospatial Framework Data
Draft Plan or other items that you would like more information
about.
