To better serve the California geospatial community, we have restructured our Hot News page into four areas: Feature News, General News, Training Opportunities, and Employment Opportunities. The Statewide Events Calendar is a quick way to see the major events that have come to our attention. ITEMS: Regional Collaboratives: An updated Regional Collaboratives Directory is now available. CGIA continues to work with the California GIS Council and regional groups to promote framework data, business planning development, and data sharing. The events calendar has been updated to include Michael Baker Jr. Corporation's schedule for conducting regional workshops regarding the Phase 2 Strategic Planning with Regional Collaborative CAP Grant Project. Imagery for the Nation Request For Qualifications CGIA is partnering with the US Geological Survey, the California Resources Agency, and the California GIS Council to develop a California Orthoimagery and Digital Elevation Data Business Needs Assessment and Best Practices Report. To accomplish this, CGIA distributed a Request for Proposals (RFP) to find a highly qualified firm(s) to develop the report and conduct associated outreach and assessments across the state. The resultant report prepared for this project should help guide local, state, federal, and regional agencies in identifying options for cooperatively acquiring and procuring digital orthoimagery and digital elevation data. The final report will be published on the CGIA and State GIS Council's websites and will become a theme-specific piece of the Strategic Plan for the development of the California Spatial Data Infrastructure. The RFP process is now closed, effective September
21st, per the RFP calendar. Proposals are now under evaluation.
Additional details on the outcomes of the RFP process will be
provided within the next 30 days. International
GIS Day 2007 - How GIS Affects Your Life International GIS Day is November 14, 2007. GIS Day is a grassroots event that reaches out to our community, to demonstrate the real-world applications and the importance of GIS in our world and business. In 2004 the US Department of Labor identified Geospatial Technologies, which includes GIS, as on of the three most important emerging fields; the other two were biotechnology and nonotechnology. Therfore, the user and value that GIS brings to our daily lives is far reaching.
The Santa Rosa ArcGIS Users Group has chosen as the theme for this year, "How GIS Affects Your Life ". GIS will be showcased at this event by the County of Sonoma, City of Santa Rosa, City of Petaluma, private agencies and individuals.
